Charlie Fink

Charlie Fink is a Forbes columnist and the author of a new book, “Remote Collaboration, Virtual Conferences and the Future of Work” (May 2020), and the critically acclaimed AR-enabled books “Charlie Fink’s Metaverse” (2017), and “Convergence, How The World Will Be Painted With Data” (2019). He teaches XR at Chapman University Film School in Orange, California.

Fink is a consultant to some of the leading companies in the XR (AR/VR) world. As a 28-year-old junior executive at Disney, Fink famously came up with the idea for “The Lion King.” In the 1990s, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of VR pioneer, Virtual World Entertainment. Variety calls him “XR’s explainer-in-chief.”

In addition to his work as head of story development for Disney Feature Animation during Disney’s second golden age of animation (1985-1992), Fink was Senior Vice President & Chief Creative Officer of AOL Studios (1995-1999), and President of American Greetings Interactive and Blue Mountain (2000-2004). His past experience includes successful exits from several startups.

Sean Griffin is President of Nomadic, an immersive entertainment company focused on leveraging technology innovations to bring the world’s most beloved stories to life. At Nomadic, Sean led the nationwide launch of Star Wars’ Vader Immortal: Lightsaber Dojo, an immersive virtual reality training ground developed by ILMxLAB, which is now being expanded worldwide.

Prior to his work at Nomadic, Sean led location expansion and content acquisition at LBVR company The VOID, worked in Strategy and Global Business Development for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, and worked in the Technology, Media, and Telecom practice at The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where he helped to launch BCG Digital Ventures.

He received his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate degree at Boston College.

Alex is the creative director and CEO of Reality in virtual reality RiVR. Following a successful career in creating high end commercial trailers in the gaming industry for Codemasters Alex became a CAA approved drone pilot and created a videography company.

Matt Heller has spent 31 years in the attractions industry. Starting as a ride operator at Canobie Lake Park just out of high school, Matt has enjoyed a robust career around the industry with leadership positions at Canobie, Knott’s Camp Snoopy, Valleyfair and Smiles Entertainment Center. Pulling from his previous leadership experience, in 2003 Matt joined Universal Orlando Resort as the Senior Trainer of Leadership Development. Matt has also served on various IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) planning committees and was awarded the prestigious IAAPA Meritorious Service Award in 2017 for his unyielding dedication to helping the industry grow.

In 2011, Matt reduced his role at Universal to pursue additional independent training and consulting opportunities. He created Performance Optimist Consulting, and now helps leaders across the world make sure they are getting the most out of themselves and their teams. He does this through individual and group coaching, interactive keynotes and customized training sessions.

Matt has also written two books for leaders in the attractions industry: “The Myth of Employee Burnout” and “ALL CLEAR! A Practical Guide for First Time Leaders and The People who Support Them”. Both have become go-to resources that help organizations improve employee engagement and leadership development.

Joanna Popper

Joanna Popper is a Hollywood and Silicon Valley media executive with experience in TV, Digital, Film and VR/AR. She recently became HP’s Global Lead for Virtual Reality Location Based Entertainment. Prior she was the EVP of Media and Marketing at Singularity University, a Google-sponsored NASA-based company that trains leaders on emerging technology, and VP Marketing at NBCUniversal. Joanna developed a TV show partnership with NBC and Singularity University for “The Awesome Show,” a new broadcast TV series on tech and innovation produced by Mark Burnett with host Chris Hardwick. She is advising many immersive computing and digital media companies focused on VR gaming, holograms, haptic touch and video engagement as well as developing VR/AR content in the education and wellness spaces. She has spoken in the US and internationally on VR/AR, the future of media, retail, sports, journalism and diversity in tech. Joanna is on the Coalition for the Women in XR Fund and was selected as one of “50 Women Can Change the World in Media and Entertainment” by Take the Lead Women.

I’m a naturally inquisitive person. People fascinate me. I enjoy learning about them – their strengths, their weaknesses, the journey they took to get where they are. I like identifying a great person for a role and helping them to be excellent. People are my passion.

Life should be fun. I want to be able to show people a great time – and that’s where Strike comes in. It’s a one-stop entertainment shop. It’s carefree and fun. We have that in common.

One of my favourite books is “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”, appropriate given I feel as though my career is built on a journey of hitchhiking from country to country. I grew up in South Africa, where I studied Commerce before working for Bic Corp. I then moved to their New York office to gain international experience. It was then onto London where I further fine-tuned my skills in strategic thinking, innovation, leadership and mentoring. But my first foray into the entertainment industry was here, in Australia with Village Nine Leisure and then EDG Entertainment before setting up Strike Entertainment.

Big houses are built on great foundations. Creating substantial IP and gaining a great understanding of what works and what doesn’t was crucial. Armed with this knowledge, I set up Strike in 2002. It was an incredible journey, but nothing like the journey we’ve been on since.

The foundation is set and now it’s time to grow. To date, Strike has 12 venues and more in the pipeline. We have recently bought the franchise rights for Sky Zone for Asia Pacific – a high growth business model complementary to the Strike brand… and a whole lot of trampolines. In July 2015, we rolled Strike and Sky Zone up into Funlab, a company that is set to become an entertainment giant.

The Strike and Sky Zone journey is just kicking into second gear and I’m excited to be behind the wheel.

Mark is the former CPO of Wylei an AI Marketing optimization company, CEO/CTO of Appmobi, CEO/CTO and founder of Digital Variant, CIO at PointOne, a clinical genetic startup, CTO at Bolt.com, and Executive Director of Technology at Outpost.com. Josh Sugarman


Josh leads experience producer Ravel and the newly formed Bite.Delivery, which is changing the face of food delivery through immersive story & game concepts like its Vampire (dot) Pizza. Josh began his entertainment career writing and then producing for New York-based TV & film producer The Tenafly Film Company. While with Tenafly, he developed projects with the BBC, NBC, ESI, ESQUIRE, NFL NETWORK & SNAPCHAT and ran & executive produced a documentary series based on the book MUST WIN. Josh is a graduate of Columbia Law School where he also studied with the MFA program, a New York Times published documentary photographer and a member of the California State Bar.

Chanel Summers

A pioneer in the field of interactive audio, Chanel Summers has been a respected game producer and designer, Microsoft’s first audio technical evangelist, and a member of the original Xbox team, having helped to design and support the audio system for that groundbreaking console and creating the first ever support team for content creators. An accomplished touring drummer, Chanel now owns and runs her own audio production and design company, Syndicate 17, specializing in sound design, music production and audio implementation for location-based attractions and virtual, augmented, & mixed reality products. Chanel also serves as a technical consultant to a number of organizations and innovative technology companies and lectures and educates around the world on subjects as diverse as the aesthetics of video game audio, world building, and secondary-level STEM education for young women.

Some of her recent work includes audio for MediaMation’s REACTIVR, first shown at IAAPA 2015; Intel Labs/5D Global’s Leviathan, featured and was an Official Selection at Sundance New Frontiers Festival 2016; VRstudios/VRcade’s Barking Irons, which debuted at CVR 2016; and the VR Experience (“The Repository”) for Universal Studios Orlando’s 2016 Halloween Horror Nights.
